School Property Tax Relief
When Texas was a Republic, there was very little, if any, commerce. Texas resorted to creating property taxes to support a government structure. Currently, Texas is heavily involved in large amounts of domestic and global commerce. Today, by the U.S. Department of Commerce statistics, Texas is ranked the 14th in the world in terms of the Gross Domestic Product. We have an opportunity to replace the School Property Tax, Franchise Tax and Gross Margin Tax with the broadening of and reduction of the Sales Tax to fund the schools and the general fund in Texas.
When you pay off your home mortgage, do you own your home? No! You pay rent to the government for the privilege to say you own it. Property taxes are perpetual. If we do nothing, your property taxes will double every seven years. Why? There are local increases in tax rates, appraisals and debt which have resulted in higher property tax bills despite record tax rate relief being passed in the last legislative session.
Property taxes have been tying up our courts on all levels of the judicial system for over thirty years. It is costing the taxpayers monies that can be best spent elsewhere.
Under a new plan, more Texans will qualify for home loans, more homes will be built and retirees will be free from a terrible financial burden in paying their property taxes on a fixed income. Our Texas economy would grow with new job opportunities.
We can move forward to a less complicated method and transparent way
of obtaining tax revenue with which to fund our schools and operate our
State government!
