Photo IDs and Protecting the Integrity of the Vote
Protecting our election processes and our polls means that every single voter should be required to present a valid government –issued photo ID when registering to vote and when casting their vote. There could not possibly exist a compelling reason for refusing to reduce the potential of fraud at every point in our voting mechanisms!
The Federal Supreme Court, in a five to four decision, has upheld the Indiana Law enacted in 2005. Indiana’s law that requires a proper government-issued photo ID be presented in order to vote in an election is legal. Since the passage in Indiana and Arizona, voter turnout has increased. Texas proposed such a law only to be defeated in the last legislature. I assure you that I will be supporting such legislation in the next legislature.
In Texas, you can vote by presenting a utility bill without a photo ID. Mexico has the strictest Voter Photo ID card in the world, as stated by the United Nations. In Mexico, you have to prove citizenship, residency, have a photo and fingerprint on a magnetic strip card to prove that you have either voted or not (source: Google – Mexico Voter ID).
Isn't it time to bring our state into the 21st Century on our Right to Vote?
I ask for your support to get this legislation passed.
